Maggie Reilly has covered vast musical ground. From the jazz/funk of Cado Belle, performances with Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, her collaboration with Prog rocker Mike Oldfield, duets with Jack Bruce (Cream) and Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) through early nineties Euro pop and her thoughtful solo albums of the last decade, Maggie first came to prominence with the seminal Scottish funk-rock-band Cado Belle before forming her much acclaimed partnership with Mike Oldfield, which produced such great songs as ‘Moonlight Shadow’, ‘To France’ and the Hall & Oates hit ‘Family Man’ for which she received an ASCAP award in 1984. After parting with Oldfield and taking time out to start a family, Maggie resumed her solo career and awards came with increasing frequency. Her Album ‘Echoes’ in 1991 included the massive worldwide hit that she wrote ‘Every time We Touch’ alongside the European hits ‘Wait’ and ‘Tears in the Rain’. The release of ‘Starcrossed’ (2000) provided more evidence of her subtle skills, particularly on the stunning single ‘Adelena’ (including an electrifying guitar solo by Chris Rea) and the beautiful ‘Half-Light’.
In 2006 Maggie returned to her Scottish roots with the release of ‘Rowan’. This is an album of original songs, mixed seamlessly with traditional Scottish and English folk songs with the Reilly twist! The 2009 release of ‘Looking Back Moving Forward’ presented a new take on some of Maggie’s older songs alongside new songs in the contemporary celtic style. Constantly playing with her band across Europe Maggie’s last album ‘Heaven Scent’ released Oct 2013 was premiered at Glasgow’s fabulous Celtic Connections festival at the sold out Tron Theatre to fabulous reviews. Below is her live performances in Finland of Moonlight Shadow and a track from her album Heaven Sent…

“Genuine talent… Sage has a knack for writing melodies that will break your heart without making you feel manipulated in the process….Where there’s poignancy, there’s also subtlety, unforced passion and knowing observation”

At first listen, what sets Jill Barber apart is her distinctive voice. But it’s her ability to write an immediately memorable song that has made her one of Canada’s most recognisable artists.
On Fool’s Gold, her latest studio album, Jill continues to explore different musical styles, from traditional country, to jazz and Motown, though she rarely works neatly within the confines of any one genre. Instead she writes in the spirit of the Brill Building era where hook and melody reigned.
Fool’s Gold was produced in Toronto by Jill’s long time collaborators and band mates Les Cooper (For All Time, Chances, Mischievous Moon) and Drew Jurecka (Chansons). “Nobody knows me better musically than Les and Drew. We’ve spent years living and breathing music in the studio, on the stage and on the back porch. We speak the same musical short-hand. But most importantly I trust them, I really trust them.”
Jill’s songs have always set a romantic mood, and on Fool’s Gold, the romance is still very much alive, but she also introduces a new sexy Motown inspired sound on the lead single “Broken for Good.”
“What I love about Motown is that musically, it knows exactly how to deliver a message: with a strong backbeat, punctuated by horns, a driving bass line and an immediate pop appeal. It will ultimately get inside your soul but first it’ll just make you want to move your body. I wanted to write some killer songs with this approach and give myself and my band a chance to rock a little.”
“I dreamed up the kind of song that I could imagine Patsy Cline singing, one full of resignation and sorrow, but not bitterness. It hurts me to sing it, just a little. But that’s how I know it is a keeper.”
Jill Barber has become renowned for writing songs that evoke feelings of a bygone era. The songs on Fool’s Gold are delivered by that distinct, evocative voice of an artist who has drawn inspiration from a cross section of musical genres. Regardless of Jill’s influences, the one thing you are always assured of is that you know a Jill Barber song when you hear it, and chances are, you’ll never forget it.

“A REFRESHING NEW TALENT WITH A GREAT VOICE AND THUMPING BEATS, WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE…- John Saunderson, Notting Hill Music”
Listening to the music of Common Tongues is like catching smoke; Its tangible essence might just be in your grasp when it twists and curls into a wisp of something else entirely.
These melodically noisy art rockers dance on the boundaries between rasping acoustics, bubbling electronics, intricate harmonies and acid-dipped violins. The Brighton 5-piece offer an absorbing, vital hit at their live shows whilst their records reveal immersive arrangements worthy of multiple listens and lyrical themes of conflict, decline and rebirth.
The band have travelled far and wide playing big, anthemic main stage slots at Secret Garden Party, Bestival, and Sligo Live. Whilst showcase gigs such as Liverpool Sound City, The Great Escape and Reeperbahn have built the bands experience they have also supported Brit award nominees Villagers and upcoming alt queens Larkin Poe. They have also demonstrated their ability to do intimate, heartbreaking acoustic sets at, amongst others, Cambridge Folk Festival, and live on Dermot O’ Leary’s Radio 2 show.
